Day 251 - A Day In Paradise Muang Ngoy

Overnight it would continue to get colder & we were awoken a few times by the sounds of small town rural life & the animals that reside here. A few cat fights could be heard, which caused the dogs to bark.  The guy in the bungalow next to us had an obnoxiously loud 5.30am alarm go off, but apart from all that, it was an amazing sleep.
Tom was awake at 6.30am & woke me up at 8am. I'm not sure how I slept through the roosters crowing.

It was deliciously cold & crisp. The mountains were still hidden by cloud, while fog hung low over the river & the sun's rays were still not over the mountain.
We had hot showers & then emptied our packs out onto the bed to access our warm winter clothes.
We haven't had to go down into the deep dark parts of our pack for a couple of months, our winter clothes wouldn't have been worn since South Africa.
In the process, I discover my adidas shirt (which I thought had been stolen) & my hair brush, which I thought I lost on top of the volcano Pacaya.
Yay! It's gonna be a good day.

Wearing long pants, jumpers & scarves, we walk along the front of the river until we come to a cafe with a great balcony & a friendly dog. We eat a simple breakfast here & then walk through town admiring how easy & happy life is here.
Tom & I both love the idea of rural living & a more simple life. Tourism has done this place well. You can see this in the basic quality of life of the locals. Everyone's clothes are nicer, their houses are nicer & everyone's happy.

After our walk we get the laptop & go find a cafe to sit at for a few hours to do some internetting.
Tom also takes 3 different pairs of pants to a local tailor who fixes the holes in them for 45,000 kip.
Laos is crazy cheap!

The afternoon, in fact the whole day pass by very quickly & before long it's 4pm & the sun has sunk behind the mountains.
For dinner, we go back to the same riverside restaurant & share some spring rolls, sticky rice & a traditional Laos dish known as laab.

After dinner, we head to bed for hopefully a big nights sleep.
