Day 203 - A Day Off In Antigua & Meeting The New Group

Today began very late, with lots of seedy feeling & with a lot of rehydration requirements.
It was just after lunch before I emerged from the dorm to shower & sort myself out. Tom, as well as 8 others were up at 9.30am to go down to a local tattoo artist.
Barbie, is super talented & has designed a one of a kind tattoo that is a marine turtle with an artistic bottle of rum & the quote "go slow" inside it.

They all return at lunch time showing off their new ink. Tom got his on the side of his leg, down near his ankle & it is bleeding profusely from the recent alcohol consumption.
Most people got the design on their foots or ankles. Trying to put all of the tattoos into a group photo required some inventive use of furniture & body positions. They look really good & will forever remind people of this amazing time we all shared together.

On Toms return, he goes back to bed & I head out shopping with Hannah & Birte. There is a gorgeous pair of overalls I saw in a shop a few days ago. They have my name on them & after trying them on, I can't possibly leave them here.

Surprisingly, I also come home with a pair of hand made blue leather boots with hand stitched detailing & wood soles. They were the equivalent of $100 AUD, but they were gorgeous & a one of a kind, that I know I wouldn't find elsewhere.
I'll always remember them as the boots I brought in Guatemala & proudly wear them.

At 6pm it's time to meet the new group & our new guide. Everyone seems nice enough & there are a few lads who I think will turn out to be gems. Of the previous group there is Hannah, Lucy, Dolly, Birte, Carla, Diarmuid, Tom & myself.  There are a few chicks from Ireland, a couple from Ireland, 2 lads from the UK & an Aussie bloke.
Our guide is called Veronica or Ronnie as she prefers to be called & we have an extra guide called Hugo.  Ronnie is from El Salvador, but her family moved to Australia when she was young & Ugo grew up in Guatemala, but went to school in Belize.

After the meet & greet we go our to one of Ronnies favourite restaurants foe traditional Guatemala food. Tom & I order vegetarian versions of Pepìan & Jòcn, which are thick soups with fresh veg, herbs, rice & tortillas added into it.
It's amazingly delicious! We both love the Jòcn which is green & has a base flavour of cilantro. There is rice, whole avocado & cheese added to the soup.
I've looked up the recipes, so I can recreate them at home.

Following dinner is an opportunity for a salsa lesson, Tom, myself & most of the previous group who went out last night, bail on this in preference of our beds & a big sleep before our early start tomorrow.
