Day 12 On Tour.
We jumped out of bed excited about hot showers & raced across the freezing lawn, wearing only our pyjamas. We were sadly disappointed that the showers weren't hot. They were freezing cold & despite the hotel managers assurances, the hot water never appeared.
Tom gritted his teeth & braved the skin numbing water. I chickened out & had a face washer & baby wipe shower.
After leaving the hot spring tourist camp we drove for 30 km's off road, crossing a few more streams.
We stopped for lunch at a cafe in a small city. We ordered pizza which was a nice change from all the Mongolian food we have been eating.
After eating lunch we hoped back in the car & drove 200km's along sealed roads. We start to feel the drop in temperature and soon enough some of the mountains have snow on them & the rivers have ice on the top.
We stopped to stretch our legs & take photos of a ravine, we were only out of the van for about 2 minutes before running back. The wind had picked up & was blowing cold air straight through our jackets and into our bones.
We arrived at our guest house around 3pm. There is 6 gers including the guest ger, the others are lived in by 3 families. They also have 3 different herds of sheep & goats, with various enclosures & sheds made out of wood.
The ger camp is positioned between mountains, with a rock wall behind them to shield against the wind & an impressive view of the lake at the front.
We are invited into the families ger for hot milk tea & sweet pancake. The hospitality of Mongolian Nomadic families will never cease to amaze me.
I go for a brief walk around with the goats, sheep & dogs. I am particularly fond of a little goat who runs up to me for a cuddle, he has a black glossy coat with grey ears & a grey nose. The young goats here are well fed, full of energy and very cheeky, lots of them are climbing up the rocks & play fighting with their horns.
It's nice to retreat to our ger, with the roaring fire, beer, music & card games. The sun set even later here, at 8.30pm it disappeared behind the mountain. It didnt ger dark till 9.20pm & it was many hours after this before we retired to our beds.
