Day 104 - Rishikesh

Today we woke up at the standard of about 10 or 11 am. After indulging in the cooking class last night, Allisha was having stomach problems again. Its hard to know if its the spices, the oil, or hygiene that is to blame. Regardless you pretty much can't avoid it. So we have started just eating whatever we want. Provided there are no obvious signs of the food not being handled properly.

Allisha decided to stay in bed and I ventured upstairs and had a bowl of special K with soy milk. A few of the other guys who were having drinks and food with us the night before, were up and about and we all lay around in the common room, chatting and laying under the fans. For one reason or another the power kept tripping to the whole hostel. May have been something to do with the mass amounts of water pouring in through a gap in the roof which flowed freely onto a power point.. As a result the power kept tripping out every 10 min. So no fans, 90% humidity, 40 degrees. We ended up standing in doorways and sitting in window sills to try and catch any breeze that we could. Eventually someone must have worked out which was the circuit at fault and turned it off because the power stayed on after that.
Becoming restless with the heat and wanting a change in environment we walked up to a restaurant near by. Despite beer not being allowed some restaurants are still happy to sell beer to you at a premium. We sat and talked and enjoyed a meal. Having spent the day together yesterday, our conversations soon became more involved. And we discussed politics, social equality, as well as our various other travel experiences and life experiences. It's always the best part of staying in a hostel, meeting a bunch of people whom you may normally never have gotten the opportunity to have a conversation with, and quickly ending up talking freely about any topic. Challenging each others point of view and expanding your own perspective on the world in the process.

After an hour or so of great conversation and food. We headed back to the hostel. Walking along the busy and treacherous roadside. I will never be able to express how insane and dangerous the roadside is over here. You have no idea what anyone is intending at any time. There are horns blaring constantly for no apparent reason. Everyone is in a constant rush. The roadside is usually dug up and covered in ankle deep rubbish. It's by far the most treacherous thing you will experience in India!

Once safely back at the hostel. We quickly made plans to purchase a couple of beverages. We spent the rest of the evening relaxing on the roof top. Talking and playing Jenga. Once the night had worn on and the drinks were spent. I headed off to bed to catch another 12 hour sleep.

Another day in paradise with good company and good conversation.
