Junk, the name of an ancient sailing ship in china, they have been used as sea going vessels since the early 2nd century AD & we were lucky enough to be at the right place & the right time in Victoria Harbour when this one pulled up, with the quirky name of 'Duk Ling', it was built in 1955.
We took a ferry from Tsim Sha Tsui to Wan Chai, Hong Kong Island and spent a day walking the streets, literally getting lost and exploring! We spent quite a few hours and 16km's getting lost.
Hong kong is a very safe city and to us, has a Melbourne meets Asia feel. There is a mixture of Chinese, Japanese, Malaysian & Korean influences that you can see, hear & taste.
We saw birds of prey (Kites?) swooping in and around the sky scraper buildings and flying beside the ferry plunging down on unsuspecting fish. Unfortunately they were having to interpret the difference between rubbish and fish. Despite being a clean city it is not immune to air and water pollution. Some days it is very thick with smog, you can see it in the air, you can feel it on your face and later you an smell it in your hair and clothes that you have worn. Definitely not ideal if you have allergies and/or asthma as we both do. Despite the obvious pollution in the air and the ocean, the streets are very clean, there are lots of bins and as you walk the city you see people with traditional woven, grass brooms removing litter and leaves from paths. Hong Kong is very industrious with lots of building and a very active harbour that would be a huge contributor to the pollution. From what we could see there was only a small amount of consideration for PPE and they use bamboo for scaffolding, even on the massive sky scraper buildings.

We finished off the day writing this post while drinking cheap Coronas at the Nest bar, sitting at a window looking out onto the hustle and bustle of Hong Kong.
Life is good!
